Dingwall Museum Exhibition launch event with the Dingwall Gaelic Choir. The Choir sang highlights from “Mactalla Cogaidh” (Echoes of War), with a poetry reading by Sandy Thompson, and Piobaireachd “The Lament for Mackintosh” song by Linn Phipps

Special event to mark the opening of our exhibition at Caithness Horizons on Alan Mackintosh, poet of the Highland Division (see Exhibitions section below). 
Melvich Gaelic Choir, conducted by Raymond Bremner, performed An Eala Bhan and Sine Bhan (WW1 gaelic songs), with readings of EAM’s poetry by Pat Kieran, and Soloist Eileen Duncan sang Eilean Beag Donn A’ Chuain.  The event closed with Piobaireachd song Cumha Mhic an Toisich – The Lament for Mackintosh, sung by Linn Phipps.

E Alan Mackintosh: soldier poet of the Great War
An evening of music, song, poetry and readings from his life, work and times
There were poetry readings by Colin Campbell (E A Mackintosh’s biographer) and Linn Phipps, with a brief history of Mackintosh’s life and times, accompanied by songs in English and Gaelic. Guest artists included:
  • Pupils from Edinburgh Academy: world premiere of setting of Cumha nan Gillean arranged by Ron Looker, and conducted by Angus Tully, Director of Music, Edinburgh Academy
  • Linda Campbell & Magnus Turpie (accordionists):
  • Elinor Evans (professional harpist)
  • Sheena Jardine (fiddler)
  • Iain MacDonald (piper)
With joining-in songs too.
